1708 is made up of 17 ounces of Strands ,stitched at a 45 degree angle, and 8 ounces of chopped strand mat backing. for a total of 25 ounces per square yard.
What is Biaxial Mat?
Biaxial Fabric is non-woven. It consists of two layers that are stitched together, and instead of laying the strands at a 90 degree angle, they are laying at a 45 degree angle to each other.
1708 is E-glass Biaxial (+/-45) with a 3/4 ounce chopped strand mat backing.
Using Biaxial fiberglass cloth means less resin is necessary.
It also gives you the ability to lay the fibers in the direction you want, and has excellent conforming qualities(it goes around corners well) .
The fabric and the mat work together to make a very strong end product.
Used where strong stiff and smooth laminate with equal strength in two directions is desired. Good wet out, and quick thickness build up. Excellent resin to reinforcement ratio.

this cloth has nice thickness to it. 2 layers at most for what I did. first time I worked with fiberglass. Great how to videos. With a phone call I got great help in finding what I needed for my job. good prices. I recommend Biaxial Mat 1708 and FiberGlassSite.com

The mat came rolled on a tube just as promised and wrapped exceptionally well. It arrived undamaged, on time. Thick and strong, but still workable enough to make a 90 degree turn. This stuff is thirsty, wetting the material and whatever you at placing it over is a must. There is no pushing resin through this material. Had a couple spots the first time I used it that I was a little light on resin at first when wetting the cloth, it didn't stick to the stringer on my boat very well. But give it plenty of juice and it lays down nice and smooth. Great Price too.
