1708 is made up of 17 ounces of Strands ,stitched at a 45 degree angle, and 8 ounces of chopped strand mat backing. for a total of 25 ounces per square yard.
What is Biaxial Mat?
Biaxial Fabric is non-woven. It consists of two layers that are stitched together, and instead of laying the strands at a 90 degree angle, they are laying at a 45 degree angle to each other.
1708 is E-glass Biaxial (+/-45) with a 3/4 ounce chopped strand mat backing.
Using Biaxial fiberglass cloth means less resin is necessary.
It also gives you the ability to lay the fibers in the direction you want, and has excellent conforming qualities(it goes around corners well) .
The fabric and the mat work together to make a very strong end product.
Used where strong stiff and smooth laminate with equal strength in two directions is desired. Good wet out, and quick thickness build up. Excellent resin to reinforcement ratio.

real nice fiberglass
love this stuff..not what you find in the auto parts store, this is heavy duty serious fiberglass, super strong, i never even seen 1708 this thick, sucks up a ton of resin, the strength is great,packaging was great, on a roll not folded and shipping was real fast

Efficient and tough lay-up
I have been using the 1708 biaxial mat for joints between plywood and to cover polyisocyanurate (rigid, closed-cell foam) for boat construction. It's pretty thirsty stuff, the mat, because it's three layers. But the thing is: it would be the same amount of resin after three separate layers, and this is about 3x as efficient because you are applying the triple-layer matt all at once. Big fan, even though I am not sure I am always laying my strands in the best directions around corners! Thanks, Mike and fiberglasssite.

Like a Bullet-proof Vest
We purchased 1708 from FibergassSite to correct a structural issue on our ply on frame boat; we used two layers and are happy with the material. It wet easily and laid properly as it should. Wish I found fiberglasssite first
Bought 10 yds of 1708 on line thought was good, need more found this site looking for resin bought 10 yds the difference was night and day, first one came in a box fgs comes on a roll and quality of glass was so much better! redoing stringers on a boat wish I started with there glass! Also nice price!
